Newbury is proud to be apart of the South Fayette community. If the Lions get a win tonight, they clinch the Century Conference championship!
The 58 Players have been working hard all season to acheive this perfect record. Before each game, Head Coach Joe Rossi details a preview of Friday night’s game. Tonight, the Lions take on Steel Valley. Here is Coach Rossi’s preview:
The Steel Valley Ironmen come into this game with a 5-2 record after beating Seton LaSalle 33-14 last Friday night. They jumped on Seton 20-0 in the 1st quarter and never surrendered the lead. They are led by the three headed monster on offense, quarterback, fullback and tailback. Quarterback Tony Johnson (#2), fullback James Caldwell (#6) and tailback Delrece Williams (#21) pose a serious threat on offense. They will run an option style offense with the ability to also pound the ball. The Lions must pursue to the ball and tackle well if we want to be successful.
Their defense operates out of a 4-4 cover three set. They have a good core of linebackers and a secondary that will not give up the big play. Their best defensive player is Kevin Ohm (#1) who plays defensive end. He has given teams fits as a pass rusher.
The Lions will have to once again win the turnover and special team battle in order to win.

Make Pittsburgh Even Cooler in June: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The Black and Gold City Goes Green decided to “Make Pittsburgh Even Cooler” this month with a recycling event taking place this Saturday in the East Parking Lot of Heinz Field from 9 AM to 1 PM. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, recycling half of your trash can prevent up to 509 pounds of heat-trapping gases from being released into the air each year. Recycling takes less energy and water than using new materials, and it also saves space in landfills.
At Saturday’s event, TVs and more can be recycled for a small fee, but recycling just one computer can save up to 206 pounds of heat-trapping gases, and every five cell phones can save up to two pounds of heat-trapping gases. The fee will go towards making sure the item is recycled in a proper manner. Items welcomed at the event are as follows: electronic equipment such as televisions, computers, monitors, cell phones, other digital equipment, printers, scanners, fax machines; unopened, unexpired medical supplies such as syringes, gauze, catheters, gloves, bandages; gently used medical equipment such as nebulizers, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, walkers; and in addition compact fluorescent light bulbs, alkaline batteries and ink and toner cartridges can be brought for either reuse or recycling!
eLoop is responsible for recycling the electronic equipment in an environmentally safe way without shipping material overseas. Global Links recovers unused medical supplies and gently used medical equipment and provides them to hospitals and clinics serving poor populations in developing countries.
If you’re in Pittsburgh come out this Saturday to support a great cause and make America’s Most Livable City a little greener!
Pittsburgh Again Named Nation’s Most Livable City

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that British magazine The Economist has given Pittsburgh a boost to its confidence, once again naming Pittsburgh the #1 “Most Livable” city in the United States. Pittsburgh was also rated #29 worldwide. Vienna, B.C. took away the top spot worldwide. In January Forbes Magazine cited Pittsburgh as the sixth best city in “Ten Cities For Job Growth In 2009.”
In The Economist’s report, between 30 to 40 indicators were considered under five categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. The Economist used its own analysts plus statistics and input from correspondents in each city.

TIME Magazine: Finding One Economic Bright Spot on Main Street
This is a great article talking about how our nation can learn a lot from Pittsburgh about coming back from recessions. While we have never had a housing boom, we have seen the death of the steel industry, the disappearance of US Airways, and huge population losses over the year.
But as we Pittsburgh faithful will tell anyone who asks, Pittsburgh is now a leader in healthcare, high-value metals, and technology. Check out the full article here in TIME Magazine.
